Stefano Pilati’s latest collection for Yves Saint Laurent menswear was inspired by traditional Austrian garb. In fact, a feature in the collection was the fresh take on the classic Austrian jacket, the “trachenjacke,” and the music was Austrian to boot. The collection was filled with slim suits (as one would expect from YSL) and bulky outerwear, including hooded ponchos, and coats with notably absent, or largely exaggerated, lapels.
All in all, this was definitely one of Pilati’s more classic collections — the designer is known for pushing the boundaries with his ready-to-wear collections. Simple, functional and, as always, chic, Pilati’s collection proved he doesn’t always have to do something ‘out there’ to turn heads with his designs.
