Vietnamese is one of the best cuisines around, but only if it is done right. Many restaurants are a sheer disappointment, providing oily MSG fuelled meals, when all you’re after is fresh and flavoursome. Xage in Surry Hills has been open since December 2009 and is already one of the forerunners in the area. It really does tick all the boxes. If your friendship group is anything like mine, you will understand the eternal struggle for a yummy, cheap and cheerful restaurant, accompanied by that holy grail of dining. BYO. Upon our last visit, we literally stuffed ourselves to the brim, all for the excellent price of $25 including tip. Who would have thought? The food is delicious, modern Vietnamese, incorporating all the favourites. A new take on the fresh spring roll, the summer roll is generous in serving size, partnered with the perfect sauces. With prawn, beef, chicken, tofu and duck available, there is something for everyone. A mixture of curries, wok stir fries and vermicelli salads will leave you satisfied, but not feeling like you have over eaten. For an over zealous eater, this is pure heaven.
Best thing is to try for yourself, so head down to Xage at 333 Crown St, Surry Hills.
