Australian photographer and director Tim Richardson has just scored a major coup in being hand selected to work alongside Lady Gaga and Nicola Formichetti on a film for Barneys New York. He has previously done some work for Dazed & Confused which is perhaps how Formichetti connected with him, due to his strong history with the magazine. Regardless of how it all came about, it’s a fantastic opportunity for Richardson to be associated with the powerful duo. Whether or not Gaga is your thing, she ain’t going anywhere fast.
Q4 presents ‘Gaga Constellation’, an interactive digital experience to coincide with Lady Gaga’s Holiday Workshop at Barneys. The superstar has occupied a full floor of the Madison Avenue department store, filling it with anything and everything Haus of Gaga. The film is running on loop on a video wall in window number two from November 22-January 1. The animation is instantly recognisable as Richardson’s work, featuring a fragmented explosion in reverse. The theme of constellations and the wider universe is also a common thread, having been seen in Richardson’s film for the Sydney Dance Company’s production Six Breaths. Both are equally as incredible and we must say very inline with Lady Gaga, and for that matter, Formichetti’s, usual aesthetic. Some might remember the trippy pop-up store ‘Nicolas’ we featured during New York Fashion Week. Love! Especially the music.
