Last week, we sadly reported that Elizabeth Taylor had died, aged 79. The inimitable actress, who’d played lead roles in iconic films such as Cleopatra, died in hospital of heart failure, her closest loved ones by her side.
More than the legacy of all her inspiring film moments, Taylor left behind the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, which each year raises millions of dollars to combat the spread of HIV and AIDS- a cause that Taylor was particularly passionate about.
Now, it’s been announced that Taylor reportedly left a huge sum of money to her charity, and even planned for her vast jewelery collection to be auctioned off at Christie’s. There are many different reports circulating over what amount Taylor has left to charity, but one thing is clear: the money from the sale of her jewelery collection alone would help the organisation in a major way.
“To be honest, she knew more than I did [about jewelry],” said President and CEO of Luxury Jewels of Beverly Hills, Peter Sedghi recently. “When you would show her stones, she would tell you the origin, if it’s good quality, bad quality, where it came from. She had a collection like I’ve never seen before.” [NY]
Recently, we stumbled upon this gorgeous clip of Elizabeth Taylor speaking publicly about AIDS, in which she admits she can’t read her lines, having forgotten her glasses!
