SPORTSGIRL ‘WINDOW SHOP’

We all love window shopping, let’s be honest. Even those of us who have gone over their credit card limit can indulge in a spot of perusing from the safety of the street. However, Sportsgirl might have just taken that one metre invisible barrier and changed the face of window shopping forever. They have recently introduced an innovative new method of shopping, appropriately called ‘Window Shop’. It’s all a bit confusing, but in layman’s terms, the front of select Sporty shops will be plastered with images mimicking the look of the online store.

Using those strange looking barcodes you see around and the help of your phone or iPad you can scan the item and buy it straight away. Nifty, huh? This QR system still doesn’t quite compute in my brain, but let’s just trust that it works. After all, it has been all the rage in New York and London, with online retailers such as eBay and Net-A-Porter wanting in on the physical action and setting up in front of major department stores over the Christmas period. Always ahead, Shanghai even has whole digital ‘shopping walls’ in their train stations and Korea a QR supermarket. It seems Australia is a little behind in comparison, but we’re not complaining!

‘Window Shop’ has already begun in Melbourne’s Chapel St store and will be rolling out in Paddington within the next few weeks. It looks like a large billboard of clothes and the selection will be updated weekly. Your digital order will be shipped immediately upon scanning, along with a gift with purchase. My credit card is shaking in all its plastic glory!
