When Groupie and Samsung sent the call out to find some creative video guerillas to take part in our Samsung Shoot & Share video project, two guys stood out clearly from the pack. On hearing of the challenge, fearless actor/producer/musician/writer/film-makers Seaton Kay-Smith and Nick Hunter immediately set out to own it.
“I looked at it and I thought Seaton and I could easily do that, it’s what we do,” Nick recalls.
As professional actors, Seaton and Nick’s natural improvisational flair, production talents and determination scored them the Audience Choice Award for Sydney’s 48 Hour Film Project last year.
The second competitor was Alex Goddard: a film-maker working in the fashion industry who gave the boys a run for their money in the Samsung Shoot & Share competition which challenged the two teams of filmmakers to piece together a story, each team independently producing alternating chapters. Additionally, two obstacles stood in their path; the only reference in filming their continuation of the story was the last ten seconds of the previous chapter, and each chapter required the introduction of a new character, who must shoot the next chapter from their point-of-view.
Seaton and Nick’s determination was instrumental in their participation and victory in the Samsung Shoot & Share project. “We really wanted to keep it interesting and keep it fresh, but you had to explain it all in the last ten seconds to the other person so we had to really focus on how we were going to make it clear exactly what was going on,” Seaton explains.
