REVIEW: THE KOOKS @ FESTIVAL HALL

Everyone knows Pritchard is an energizer bunny on stage but that sort of energy doesn’t come from nowhere. The squeals, woo’s and have-my-babies’ were abundant and charged the battery substantially. The energy trading initiated a win-win situation, as all he had to do was utter one British-ly incoherent word for roar to erupt before him. However, these boys are experts. When it came to ‘Seaside’, they channeled that energy into a controlled acoustic number and performed with emotion and direction. The varied musical styles produced on stage over the course of the evening was admirable and exhilarating.

Marveling at their fortune at the very fact that the boys were on stage longer than anticipated, the crowd only gave them more reason to stay on stage with ample slow claps and foot stomping. An explosive three-song encore was ended with a brilliant display of ‘Naïve’, which unified the entire crowd to complete vocal synchrony, exhibiting exactly what all the fuss is about when it comes to The Kooks.
