News:

PUFFER JACKETS ARE COOL, OK?

I have been saying it for years and in fact, was only saying it this morning upon sporting a jacket of the Nike variety, puffer anything is right up there in my books. The response is always similar, “what ARE you talking about? They are soooo ugly.” Well it doesn’t seem Emmanuelle Alt thinks so, does it? Some would call her the purveyour of effortless style, and as Editor-In-Chic (thanks Lillian) of French Vogue, I think we can all admit she knows her stuff when it comes to fashion.

It is a thing of fashion legend that women in New York do not wear stockings. Ever. The past week has been particularly cold, sometimes reaching the minuses, yet STILL these women insist on bare legs. I actually don’t even understand this mentality. It’s like they are all trying to out-do each other when it comes to resisting arctic temperatures. What’s the deal? When looking at Tommy Ton’s street style pics for Style.com it is immediately obvious who is a NY local and who is from outta town. We can measure this on the scale of nakedness. Bare midriff? Definitely from New York. Sleeveless top? Maybe Brooklyn.

Other than this ridiculous and potentially self-harming behaviour, there was a clear trend coming through for the AW1213 street-style season… puffers!!!! I could not be more happy right now. Emmanuelle Alt leads the procession in her hugely oversized all black number, mais oui! There are several more varieties thrown in the mix, and I am particularly drawn to a silver Michelin Man style paired with a blue bag - très chic, non? I must also admit here that I know this young lady and thank her for supporting my puffer cause from the other side of the pond.

To further prove my point that dressing for the climate at hand can still look fashionable I have included some other great and sensible jacket options. These girls look simply radiant… and warm! So come on Australia, let’s get this puffer party started.
