Many consider shoes to be a work of art but not often is a work of art a shoe. Nicholas Kirkwood has turned this notion on its head (or feet) and collaborated with the Keith Haring Foundation to create these AMAZING pop-art shoes!
In Hong Kong to launch his new space at On Pedder at Joyce, Kirkwood gave a sneak peek of his new project with the Keith Haring Foundation who have collaborated with Uniqlo, Tommy Hilfiger, Zara and Patricia Field in the past. These shoes, however, surpass all past projects and we have Nicholas himself to thank for not only designing but pushing the collaboration in the first place.
“I watched this documentary called The Universe of Keith Haring, and though I know his style, I hadn’t seen the breadth of his work. I couldn’t stop thinking about how amazing and prolific he was and how great it would be to incorporate his graphics into my designs. So I ended up approaching the Keith Haring Foundation. I had to really sell them the product, but I think they’re pretty happy with the end result.”
We’re so happy. Only sad that they don’t go on sale until February 2011. In the meantime Nicholas Kirkwood fans can visit his pop-up shop at London Fashion Week in September and snap up his designs for Rodarte, Erdem, and Peter Pilotto before they hit the shop floors.
