Black, white, beige and metallics dominated the People’s Choice Awards 2014 red carpet, with the majority of attendees eschewing bright colour for a more muted palette.

Emily Deschanel and Naya Rivera both chose colour-blocked dresses in black and beige; Heidi Klum and Nina Dobrev went for black gowns embellished with metallic accents, while Jessica Alba and Jennifer Hudson opted for all-white looks.

Britney Spears and Anna Faris both chose shimmery metallic outfits, while black and white proved a safe bet for Beth Behrs, Sarah Michelle Geller and Sara Bareilles.

That’s not to say that there wasn’t some bright points on the red carpet: Alison Williams wore a bright blue David Koma dress, Lucy Hale wore a floral frock by Gabriela Cadena and Sandra Bullock embraced colour in Peter Pilotto.

Sandra Bullock also came out on top in the awards, picking up four awards including Favorite Movie Actress. Other winners included Robert Downey Jnr, Leonardo DiCaprio and Sarah Michelle Geller.

Aside from Anna Faris’ sparkly Naeem Kham pantsuit, everything feels pretty safe and predictable. Then again, the People’s Choice Awards is a slightly more laid-back affair than other events on the red carpet calendar – so here’s hoping these celebs are saving up their jaw-dropping outfits for the Oscars.
