Nina Las Vegas kicked off the Triple J House Party tour last night at Hi Fi in Sydney (thanks to our own Toblerone for the snaps above). Groupie recently caught up with Nina while she was touring in Paris and asked her to give our readers a first hand account of a few days in the life of NLV.
“When I travel, I try to jam in as much. As. Freaking. Possible. Paris, Tuesday July 10th was one of the busiest days of my 25 day mini-break.
First up, coffee with Amandine Romero. I’ve known Amandine since about 2007, and since then we’ve worked, danced and sung live karaoke together in both our homelands. Working alongside Busy P at Ed Banger Records, I was able to steal her away from the office for a quick espresso and gossip. Next year will be Ed Banger’s 10th Anniversary, so she’s crazy busy planning the celebrations. Oh, and finishing off Breakbot’s next LP.
As you do when on holidays, I went from one meal to the next, within the hour (diet starts next week, ok?)
Speaking of women who run the French Dance scene, I went to town on a salad Niçoise in the 13th with Perrine LeCabellec and Sabrine Mhiri. I met Perrine through the Club Cheval crew (Sam Tiba, Myd, Canblaster, Panteros666), who she manages, and Sabrine works for the booking, promotion and event agency, Who’s Your Mama. In other words, if you need to know what’s good or to get in to somewhere exclusive (Paris’ Silencio for example), these girls make shit happen.
Oh, and they’re super cool.
Not long after lunch, one of my favourite DJs in the whole WIDE world arrived from her summer home of Berlin. The generally US based DJ, Jubilee, has been making music for ever and it’s some of the most exciting, uptempo, Miami Bass, club music going round. Need more? Listen to her latest release, ‘Pop It’.
The only thing better than the fondant we shared was the fact that we were playing together later that night at Social Clubs’ Tuesday night hip-hop night, ‘Girl, Girls, Girls.‘
Proving that the world is super small and the Internet makes everyone closer, Jubilee and I quickly popped into the Club Cheval studio. Apart from loving their online personas and passion for rap music, I’m super excited about these guys and have had them on Mix Up Exclusives a bunch of times already.
While I was in town, they release a trippy (yet addictive) video for their latest single ‘Now You Realise’. Out through Brodinski’s Bromance Record Label, the track was the song of the trip. Watch out Stereosonic, these French babes are coming for you.
Partaking in the carb-loading session were all the girls playing the party and some additional Parisian babes. Hosted by Louise Chen aka ChChChen and Betty Bensimon, we got stupidly annoyed at the wait-staff, stupidly full and stupidly excited!
At midnight, doors opened. The night was rammed, reminding me of a Hoops or Halfway Crooks party back home. The only difference was that Teki Latex, Surkin or Sam Tiba (Club Cheval) generally don’t roll up at Goodgod Small Club in Sydney. Was super cool slash nerve racking.
The rest is a blur. Understandably, right?
