NICK CAVE’S NEW MOVIE, BAND

You can’t keep a Bad Seed down! Despite the disbanding of Grinderman in December, the iconic Nick Cave has been keeping remarkably busy. In his first soundtrack work since 2009, Cave and frequent collaborator Warren Ellis (also of Grinderman and Dirty Three) have formed a new band called The Bootleggers to soundtrack Lawless, a new Western movie staring Shia LeBouf (Transformers), Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) and Gary Oldman (umm… everything!). If that wasn’t enough, Cave is one of the co-writers of the John Hillcoat-directed film. How’s that for prolific?

Being set in the ol’ west (Virginia 1931, to be exact), Cave and Ellis have compiled a set of bluegrass and country tunes, both original compositions and covers of artists such as Captain Beefheart, Grandaddy and The Velvet Underground. The soundtrack also features collaborations with Screaming Trees’ Mark Lanegan and country legend Emmylou Harris, as well as appearances from Ralph Stanley and Willie Nelson. In short, it looks as though we’re in for a helluva hoe-down when the soundtrack drops in late August – a mere day before the film itself hits cinemas worldwide on the 29th! Check out the trailer to Lawless below.
