In a little more rapper-related news, Mos Def has announced that he most def will not be known as Mos Def from now on.
The US rapper, real name Dante Terrell Smith, has announced he will be changing his stage name to ‘Yasiin,’ an Arabic word meaning ‘rich’ (according to NME.com). ‘Yasiin’ is also the title of a chapter in the Qu’ran.
Speaking to MTV, Def said “Mos Def is a name that I built and cultivated through the years.”
“I feel that I’ve done quite a bit with that name. It’s time to expand and move on.”
“[I will] retire the Mos Def name after 2011. I’m actually doing it. Yasiin. That’s it.”
Def, who has also carved out a rather decent acting career for himself, starring in movies such as The Italian Job, 16 Blocks and Hitch-hikers Guide To The Galaxy. He will also take up a role in TV show Dexter soon.
