MISSONI AND CONVERSE LOOK TO THE ARCHIVES

While Isabel Marant should be given much of the credit for giving a high-fashion edge to the humble sneaker, comfy footwear veterans Converse shouldn’t be discounted. Having teamed up with Italian house Missoni for the past six seasons, the purveyors of the ubiquitous Chuck have done something extra special for the collaboration’s latest outing.

Making good, practical use of Missoni’s fabric archive, the new range sees Converse’s lesser known Pro Leather and Auckland Racer kicks decked out in colourful deadstock. Now that’s what we call a sartorial sneaker.

Available at Colette in gay Paris and priced at a tidy €400, they’re not exactly a budget option (we’re not sure how financially viable it is to hop on an international flight purely to get our hands on a pair of trainers, no matter how good they’d look with a pair of denim cut-offs come summer). Nevertheless, you’d probably see less of these babies stalking the sidewalk than the classic white high top!
