Seattle math-rockers Minus the Bear have already teased fans with a small taste of what’s to come on their fifth album, Infinity Overheard, through teaser trailers, behind-the-scenes footage and the streaming of the record’s first single, “Lonely Gun,” as well as another new song in “Diamond Lightning.” Now, the band have put out a little something extra for their followers to sink their teeth into in the form of the album’s opening track.
‘Steel and Blood’ locks into a tight groove quickly, guided by cooing synthesizers, big pop guitar and the unmistakable vocal lines of frontman Jake Snider. It’s considerably more straightforward than their traditionally jarring and zig-zagging arrangements from records past, but if their last album, 2010’s Omni proved anything, it’s that there is a lot more to Minus the Bear than meets the eye. This is a band that’s unpredictable at the best of times, but also a band with a strong degree of consistency – if you’ve ever enjoyed your rock music edged slightly left of centre, then there’s a chance you’ll be into what MtB have to offer.
The song is available to stream here.
Infinity Overhead is set for international release on Augus 28th via Dangerbird Records.
