MAC PULLS PLUG ON RODARTE COLLABORATION

Slated for launch in September, M.A.C. and Rodarte’s collaborative make up collection has been cancelled. Inspired by a road trip the designers took through Texas, the products included ”Juarez” after an impoverished, violence plagued town in Mexico, “Ghost Town” and “Factory” which have all been met with strong disapproval.

Grey taupe lipstick, opal and mint nail lacquers and “Sleepwalker” eyeshadow in beige with copper, pale blue and pink
veining. M.A.C. and Rodarte apologised for their insensitivity, renamed all the colours in the range and promised to set up a charity initiative to help victims in Juarez, but have now pulled the plug on the whole line! A true shame for both the fashion and beauty worlds!

M.A.C. announced the cancellation in a statement posted to the company’s Facebook page. The charity initiatives are still on, but both Rodarte and M.A.C. still seem quite worried about all the offense they feel they have caused. The statement read:

“Out of respect for the people of Mexico, the women and girls of Juarez and their families, as well as our MAC Mexican staff and colleagues, MAC has made the decision not to ship the MAC Rodarte limited edition makeup collection…The essence of MAC is to give back and care for the community and Rodarte is committed to using creativity for positive social change. We are grateful for the opportunity to use what we have learned to raise awareness on this important issue.”

After the Vogue Italia shoot playing on the disaster of the recent Mexican oil spill and TV series Ugly Betty, it seems that poor Mexico has become yet again, the victim of fashion.
