After being relatively quiet recently (or, at least, as quiet as he can be), Kanye West has reasserted his position at the top of the hip-hop game with two stunning new tracks (‘Way Too Cold’ and ‘Mercy’) in the leadup to the release of his G.O.O.D Music mixtape.
Now, Kanye has dropped yet another newie, a remix of ‘I Don’t Like’ by 16-year-old Chicago rapper Chief Keef. Kanye breathes new life into the original track with a sharp, punchy verse of his own, also adding contributions from Pusha T, Big Sean and Jadakiss.
According to reports, “Kanye sent some producers from G.O.O.D Music to Keef’s home in Chicago, where they set up a laptop and a microphone. Keef typed out a verse onto his iPhone on the spot, then yelled into a microphone for a few minutes, and this banger of a street remix was born.” Listen below, via Soundcloud.
Despite big praise from almost everyone (standard for Kanye), one guy isn’t too happy about the Kanye reinterpretation; the track’s original producer, Young Chop. Speaking on a Chicago radio station, Chop said: “I’m mad as fuck ‘cause for the simple fact that they did not ask me to change up shit in my beat… These motherfuckers is playin’ me and I don’t give two fucks, I will sue the shit out of Kanye West.”
Look out Ye.
