The band premiere the second single from September’s ‘Shields.’
Sure, intricately layered and sweetly harmonic indie-pop mighn’t be your usual weekend starter, but you’ll want to hear us out on this one. Earlier in the year, we got word that the delightful Grizzly Bear would be following up their critically-hailed 2009 LP, Veckatimest, with a new album in the second half of the year. We’ve already heard the spiralling beauty of ‘Sleeping Ute,’ with Daniel Rossen on lead vocals; and now, it’s time to follow that up with Mr. Ed Droste on lead vocals for ‘Yet Again.’
The track is a little more upbeat and expansive than ‘Sleeping Ute,’ with Droste’s sweetly laconic vocals oozing through the cracks of the sharp percussive movements and the reverb-laden lead guitar. It’s less a reinvention of their sound and more a reconsideration: it elaborates on ideas and builds up from areas within their songwriting that were previously lower in comparison. It looks, essentially, like Shields is going to be a very, very important album for the band – maybe even their best yet.

Shields is out internationally on September 18th on Warp Records.
