Limedrop are one of Melbourne’s most successful young labels. Helmed by designers Clea Garrick and Nathan Price, Limedrop specializes in trans-seasonal, quirky basics with bright, playful graphic prints.
While they’re currently based in Melbourne, both designers are from Perth. They moved to Brisbane to study, where Clea focused on fashion and Nathan focused on marketing. They ended up moving down to Melbourne, where they launched their label just a few short years ago.
Since then, they’ve won the Chambord Shine Award, have shown at L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, and their clothes have been picked up by boutiques around the world. Most recently, they broke into the Tokyo market.
After hearing they’d be showing a collection at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week for the first, I caught up with Clea to find out more. After our introduction, Clea gave me a virtual tour of the Limedrop studio. Unfortunately, she pulled a cable out in the process, and we lost contact for five minutes.
Clea: Wow! That will teach me for trying to give you the virtual tour!
I liked what I saw, anyway! Thanks for that. So, what are you both working on today?
Clea: We’re working on a couple of things for the show. Invites, and a few extra pieces. So, that’s exciting.
So you didn’t just grab some invites from the newsagent?
Clea: Yep, exactly. Now we’ve got to fill in the names with a pen.
Hard work!
Clea: And our goodie bags are those little plastic ones that you give kids at parties. Filled with lollies too! Actually, that would be awesome. I wish we’d thought of that…
Lollies would be great! Everyone will need a sugar-boost after all that sitting down.
Clea: Definitely.
So, why’d you guys decide to do Sydney this year? I know you normally do Melbourne.
Clea: Yeah, we do Melbourne Fashion Festival, and we’ve done Melbourne Spring Fashion Week as well. We thought it would be nice to show the summer collection at an industry event. We normally come up [to Sydney] to show the collection in the showroom, but this year we thought it was so good that we wanted to share it with everyone!
And are you showing on-site?
Clea: Yeah, we’ll be in the cargo theatre.
Can you give a hint about what everyone can expect?
Clea: Well, the collection is very tropical. It’s fun, and bright. We’ve got some Bengal cats to walk the runway, which will help with the jungle-tropical vibe! What else can I give away? We’re working with Dine on some cute, little cat necklaces, so there’ll be some good goodies in those plastic goodies bags. [she laughs]
