It’s now day two of our Lana Del Rey week, where we’re bringing you one fact per day about one of the most divisive, criticised, praised and hotly debated music identities in years.
Today’s snippet of LDR ephemera concerns what she does in her free time (i.e. those spare moments between press commitments, gigs and keeping that famous golden mane so perfectly coiffured). Lana has recently revealed that, despite being one of the most recognised names in music today, that she still has a part-time job at home… and it’s not one you’d expect.
“People would be surprised to know that I live a really quiet life,” she said in a chat with MTV. “I do a lot of the same things every day when I’m home.”
“I still have the same babysitting job. I babysit twice a week… that’s what I do, because it’s something I’ve been doing for a while.”
So, to recap; Lana Del Rey, one of the most written about artists of her generation, still has a teenage girl’s after-school job.
While most guys would probably be pretty happy to have Lana as their babysitter (don’t lie, you know it’s true), it raises another interesting point about her; is she being truthful here, or maybe trying to claw back some semblance of being a “real” person, countering claims and criticisms of her image being manufactured and inauthentic? She has also recently been telling many magazines and blogs that she likes to take fans out to dinner, and tries to talk to her fans as much as possible.
So, there you have it. Lana Del Rey; popstar, blogger’s dream, babysitter (apparently).
‘Born To Die’ is out Friday 3 February; pre-order it here. And stay tuned for our interview with Lana in the new issue of Groupie Magazine – out this Wednesday, and of course, more Lana facts all this week. Check out yesterday’s Lana fact over here.
