Kate Sylvester’s show was a highlight at this year’s Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.
Staged in a dressage circle at Randwick, the show was fast-paced. Models moved quickly around the circle, stopping within the spotlight to be snapped before racing around the circle once more.
The clothes were typical Kate Sylvester. Wearable, though served up with a touch of high-drama. Inspired by the “ephemeral oscillation of the moth’s wing” and “the revs of a motocross engine”, the collection was ethereal, elegant, sensible and feminine at the same time.
That boyish quality that pervades all of Sylvester’s designs was still apparent, with hot roller flames making their way along the hemlines of skirts. Tulle appeared on silk tees and dresses to create a subtle juxtaposition between the masculine and feminine.
