As part of West’s ‘G.O.O.D Friday’ campaign – which sees him drop a brand new track at the end of every week – last week the outspoken rap star released “Monster” a raucous, six and a half minute beast featuring contributions from Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, John Legend, Rick Ross – and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon.
According to Vernon, the vocals for the track were laid down during three separate week long trips to record with West in Hawaii earlier this year.
“I was literally in the back room rolling a spliff with Rick Ross talking about what to do on the next part of a song,” Vernon told Pitchfork. “It was astonishing.”
The track is to be included on an upcoming five-song mini album with Jay-Z called ‘Watch the Throne’.
