JÓNSI’S EYGAFJALLAJÖKULL SOUNDTRACK

We’ve been amazed by this stunning video of the Icelandic volcano that is incredibly easy to pronounce in writing – check it out: Eyjafjallajökull. Easy. Videographer Sean Stiegemeier flew over to the mountain to capture images that would better those he was seeing in the mainstream press, and although he “missed all the cool Lightning and the Lava of the first eruption”, he managed to put together quite a beautiful timelapse video of the eruption. The footage is suitably matched with the track ‘Kolniður’ by Jónsi of Sigur Rós. Scroll down for the lyrics (and attempted translation)!

Lyrics to ‘Kolniður’ by Jónsi
Glóandi augu, silfurnátt
Blóð alvöru, starir á
Óður hundur er í víga móð, í maga… mér

Kolniður gref, kvik sem dreg hér
Kolniður svart, hvergi bjart né

Kolniður og mistur úti
En í mér, ríkir óveður

Kolniður og dimmur lekur blek
Ég reyni og brenni báta skel

Langt móldur og okkur
Myrkur grám, grám hér
Dauða hjár, linnurst, skrjáfandi

Ein brý áður, ég út von nei
Sjálfur blindur á, yfir nóg
Og ég kjústigpað um…

(Dúru rurú)
(Dúru rurú)

Attempted translation using Google (we might need Jónsi to fill us in on this one):

Glowing eyes, silver nights
Real blood, staring at
About dog fighting in the mod, in the stomach … I

Kolniður gref, magma drawn here
Kolniður black, not bright nor

Kolniður and mist outside
But in me, there is storm

Kolniður and obscure leaking ink
I try and focus Boat shell

Far mold us
Dark gray, gray here
Death, heart, results in editor, skrjáf Spirit

One Bry previously, do I hope no
Himself blind, over enough
I kjústigpað about …
