HAUTE CUISINE MEETS HAUTE COUTURE

HAUTE CUISINE MEETS HAUTE COUTURE

You don’t imagine much eating happens at Paris Couture Week, but we’re about to be proved wrong. An exhibition celebrating the relationship between haute-cuisine and high-fashion is being held in the Jardin du Palais Royal throughout the Haute Couture collections which start today. It isn’t such a wild concept; both couture and gastronomy require a huge amount of technical skill, hard-work and minute attention to detail. The results are breathtaking and of course, pricey.

The exhibition, unlike the fashion shows though, is open to all. Dubbed a ‘culinary cabinet of curiosity’ the sensory experience will include performance, outdoor shows and tastings. Exploring the remarkable and delicious partnerships between foodies and fashionistas, names taking place include macaroon masters Ladurée,
embroiderer Leonard Cione with the pastry chef of Versailles and ‘un dinner blanc’ in collaboration with Maison Martin Margiela. There will also be a display of vintage Christian Dior outfits from the 1960s SS collection which was themed ‘Salad’ – really it was!

Last year, French gastronomy was added into UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage of humanity list, which recognises its cultural importance and unique structure. The exhibition takes place from the 7th – 10th July.
