We’ve taken great interest in the Major Label project since General Pants Co. announced the idea in January. Major Label seeks to use their vast network of trend-setting and ears-to-the-ground staff to help young, unsigned Australian artists get their careers started, while entire creative control and 100% royalties remain with the artists.
After a lot of development behind the scenes, Major Label emerges with its first major media showcase next Wednesday at the Oxford Art Factory, showing off their debut signings Made In Japan, Guineafowl and Underlights. From what we’re feeling, the initiative has the full support of the industry and this gig will be a big chance for the young bands to impress Sydney’s most discerning critics. They’ve already started to make some of their own success, but hopefully this showcase will be a launching pad for some of the artists and many more in the future. We can’t wait!
