The Libertines played their eagerly awaited comeback shows last weekend at Reading and Leeds – after a watershed warm-up show at the Kentish Town Forum a few days earlier. I was praying for days that plane and gig tickets would appear under my pillow, held fast in a dog-eared book of William Blake poetry. But to no avail.
That’ll teach me for skipping Sunday school, I guess…
Sounds like they blew the stage to smithereens, with a chemistry so hot it dried the tears right off their fans’ cheeks. God knows what emotions went through their bodies when Peter and Carl sung this song to each other. But you can be sure that one of them was Pride; and rightly so. What a song this is.
Here’s to the good old days, back once again (however long it lasts).
