The sleek, clean-cut silhouettes of Dion Lee’s AW2013 collection— Transit— belie the technical innovation and artistry that makes the range quite so remarkable.

Last month marked Lee’s first major outing at London Fashion Week, and the Australian designer darling has forged an illustrious path for himself grounded in a gift for innovation. Indeed, in both form and fabrication, Lee’s work is the stuff of science fiction. AW2013’s key print— a seemingly abstract swirl of blues and oranges— is in fact a thermal image, charting the contours of the body. It is these remarkable designs that take pride of place in the offering’s sensual campaign.

Both lookbook and campaign, shot by Bowen Arico, provide a welcome up-close-and-personal peek at Lee’s latest. Sculptural forms, knife-sharp tailoring and, of course, that preternatural print are captured to full effect on models  pages cover girl Kaila Hart and Lauren Taylor.

The complexity of Transit is beautifully contrasted with a relaxed, muted beauty look— barely there makeup and artfully mussed hair by KMS California is indicative that Dion Lee’s astoundingly crafted designs enhance, rather than overwhelm, the women that want to wear them. And, judging by his legions of ardent fans, there’s plenty of them.
