Earlier this week we posted about the incredible/disturbing new Die Antwoord clip for ‘Fatty Boom Boom’ that features a Lady Gaga impersonator, complete with the requisite meat outfit. The video from the South African Zef rappers and culture jammers is clearly a response to a recent interaction the group had with Lady Gaga. Mother monster reportedly asked Die Antwoord to join her on tour, and the band declined citing the fact that Gaga isn’t interesting.
The new clip was clearly intended to rub salt in the wound: within the first minute and a half Gaga spots the group and says in a valley girl accent “OMG! Look at their freaky fashion! I should get them to open for me.”
Gaga clearly took the clip and comment to heart. She sought out her 30,000 million twitter followers and made the following defensive statement: “i fink u freaky but you don’t have a hit. hundred thousand tIckets sold in SA. #thatmyshit”.
She then added:
“i guess its not a good idea to tell someone you’re a fan. never mind! we get it, you’re not a little monster. WE GOT IT.”
Die Antwoord then took to Facebook with this:
It’s kind of sad that Lady Gaga’s response was to rub in Die Antwoord’s face how much more money she’s making. Ticket sales do not the credibile artist make. She could have handle the jab a little more gracefully, and laughed it off. Instead she comes off as defensive and a touch petty.
