Could there be anywhere more beautiful to spend a Friday evening in Sydney than overlooking the harbour from the Woolloomooloo Wharf? Manta Bar and Restaurant is situated in this picturesque location and we recently enjoyed a tasting menu of what they have to offer. The refreshing Manta Martini with freshly crushed lychees and lemongrass had us wanting more from the extensive menu.... read more

The Sultan’s Table provides some of the best Turkish food I have eaten in Sydney, in fact, Australia. Situated on Enmore Road’s busy food hub (obliquely opposite The Enmore Theatre) this gem of a dine-in and takeout restaurant is constantly groaning with hungry fans, anytime of the day or night. Introduced to me by a friend many years ago, I constantly go back (even in occasional round trip taxi’s when friends cannot be persuaded to drive) for the house-made dips, handmade turkish... read more
We love it when a new café opens near our office. It means we have somewhere new to try for lunch! Whilst out on appointments last week we happened upon brand newbie Remmy & Lee’s along Bourke St. It was so new in fact that not all of the interiors had been installed. We were told that one whole wall was to be dedicated to art, with rotating exhibitions to be held frequently. One central table will encourage a communal community, and hopefully some meeting of new friends whilst sipping... read more
Lucinda and I are constantly on the search for the perfect dumplings. Very recently we found them at Din Tai Fung. Hidden at the top of World Square in Sydney city, this modern restaurant is part of a chain from Taipei that has restaurants around the globe. It is simply dumpling and noodle Nirvana. The décor is inoffensive, if not pleasing, the staff are attractive, young and friendly, and the wait is usually not too long. The texture of these dumplings, and handmaid noodles, need to be experienced... read more
Coming from London where the Rockabilly trend swept up half of Hoxton, I was happy to find a hip slice of country and western has opened up in Sydney also. Hidden down a narrow street behind Oxford’s Street American Apparel lays Shady Pines Saloon. There was neither a sign nor a burly doorman: Just a set of stairs and telltale smokers loitering outside.
As your eyes adjust to the dim-lit interior, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d stepped off somewhere between New York’s East... read more
!Sydney Theatre Company and Adelaide’s The Border Project have come together to present ‘Vs Macbeth’, (most of it) by William Shakespeare. This is a contemporary adaptation of the classic which would surely offend most purists! It has more or less been designed in that way, with director Sam Haren encouraging the traditionally accident and error-prone play to stay just that way, cherishing the taboos and faux pas. Thanks to the STC we’ve... read more
