MAISON MISSONI

!Considering her family owns an empire that is built on vivid explosions of kaleidoscopic print, you’d assume heiress Margherita Missoni wouldn’t be one to take her work home with her. When you’re surrounded by headache-inducing colour and riotously bold patterns all day, it would probably be nice to come home to some refreshing Scandinavian minimalism. Throwing open the doors to her Milan digs for ... read more

FIELD CANDY

A great name sets the tone for a fantastic new UK company, FieldCandy, producing limited edition designer tents that will add that extra bit of joy to your experience wherever you are. Shying away from the notion of a tent providing camouflage in its natural setting, FieldCandy tents do the polar opposite, providing an uplifting stand out shelter grabbing attention and providing humour and life wherever you take them.

DAPHNE’S DIGS

Describing Daphne Guinness as eccentric is equatable to saying that Kim Jong-il was “a little bit power hungry”. Fashion’s very own emaciated Cruella Deville is so gifted at donning distractingly absurd headwear and elaborate couture that you tend to forgive her for making such a lavish living on the wealth of her family’s delicious alcoholic beverage empire alone. She may be tottering around social functions... read more

DUDE CIGAR BAR

A Bangkok cigar bar named ‘Dude’ asserts that men are their target patrons in both the name and the design, using Thai architects Studiomake. Upon entering the space through twisted bricks that allow glimpses inside, the eye is directed to a humidor where cigars are sold and showcased inside the glass-fronted enclosure. Using traditional dark stained teak storage closets and dark masculine details of steel brackets and black leather chairs with hound’s tooth cloth. A tiny... read more

GARDEN SHED HOME

Designers Linda Bergroth and Ville Hara paired up and launched a greenhouse and garden shed kit in 2010 for the gardening market. The collaboration led one half of the inventive duo, Linda Bergroth, to personally customise one of the prototypes for their garden venture into her own summer house studio, located on a distant island in eastern Finland.

Adding timbre floors, solar panels for lighting, charming entry steps and a footpath out of reclaimed bricks, it is quite powerful to see... read more

WALKING ON WATER

A bridge that leads visitors below the surface of a moat, to appear as if they are walking through water without getting wet, is part of a recent restoration project on an historic Dutch fort. Called Sunken Bridge and designed by RO&AD, the bridge is an access route that is part of the 17th century defence structure of Fort de Roovere.

Completely invisible from a distance, the walkway creates a wonderful optical illusion as well as having very little impact on the surrounding views. Built... read more
