Trust the expertise of Carine Roitfeld to make a bowl cut look good. The provocative stylist and ex-Vogue editrix obviously hasn’t let a few bitter publishers get in the way of her formidable talent, with the release of V Magazine’s latest edition. Roitfeld shot a trio of retro-tinged covers starring an assortment of young women  with their fingers firmly on the pulse of fashion and culture.

The flower power oomph of cover one, starring model du jour Kati Nescher alongside Stef van der Laan and Daniela Braga, sees the three bedecked in voluminous coats by Comme Des Garçons. Rei Kawakubo’s energetic designs, which she has deemed “the new silhouette”, are showcased best in this behind-the-scenes video.

Cover two counters 60s kitsch with Balenciaga’s fiercely futuristic silhouettes (bowl cuts notwithstanding). Nescher once again takes centre stage, joined by Ava Smith and Thairine Garcia. It’s nice to see new faces work it, and also to catch a glimpse of Roitfeld in serious styling mode.

Hip music mavens of the moment Grimes, Sky Ferreira and Charlie XCX get gothed up in Givenchy for the final cover. It’s a serious departure from the vibrant energy of the others but, hey, these girls are musos! It’s a serious business, guys!
