You’ve got to hand it to Bloc Party for their utter ambition. They’re not satisfied with blowing our minds at Splendour, distracting us at work with an awesome show in New York City or giving us their world-class new album, Four, to stream in its entirety. They want more. So it is that the band – or, at least, a very clever cookie in their PR department – have begun to rally the band’s fans in order to have a number one album on the ARIA charts.

“Hey Australia!” the band’s Facebook page posted earlier today. “It seems we are currently #1 on the iTunes chart. Thank you very much. We love you – and to say “thank you,” we will play a secret gig if we get a #1 album.” The band finished off the message with a hashtag, #FourToOne, and a very crude Photoshopped image of the band with former Neighbours character Harold Bishop.

Looks like this might indicate a very sudden return to the land of Oz for the band – as long as their extensive fan-base (nearly one million fans on Facebook) get to racing the band up the charts.

Of course, if you want to do your bit then Four is out now via Frenchkiss Records on iTunes and at your local record store.
