American pop-punk icons Blink 182 have been rumoured for just about every festival there is for the past few years; but it looks like the trio may be finally be making their way back Down Under this February.
Blink 182 have not toured Australia in many years, and only tour outside their native USA infrequently, due to drummer Travis Barker’s much-publicised aversion to flying. Barker was involved in a plane crash several years ago and vowed to never fly again, meaning that the band’s transport for overseas tours has been by boat. Blink 182 are a perpetual “rumour” for Soundwave and Big Day Out each year like clockwork, and nothing ever materialises. But if a comment on Barker’s Instagram page is to be believed, the band may be back in Australia this February.
While Instagram is a smartphone app, sites like Statigram copy the content onto regular web browsers. This is how we can see this photo from Barker performing at a UK festival. No big deal, right? Well, take a look at the comments on the side of the page. About halfway down, a fan comments “there’s this place called Australia that would love to see you guys too,” to which Barker replies “Mark and Tom will be there in February of next year.”
Barker also states that he will not be making the trip, and that the band will be bringing a replacement drummer; “but with a fill in drummer cause I don’t fly.” We’ve taken a screen shot of the comment, in case it disappears:
This IS from Barker’s official Instagram page, if anyone is wondering. Check the full page here – the photo in question is the latest one to be posted.
Of course, with the band’s long history of being linked to Soundwave, and the February timeframe cited by Travis, many fans are taking this to hint at an appearance on Soundwave.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see! Festival rumours sure are starting early this year…
