Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose has blasted audiences with a megaphone rant, staged a sit-down protest and railed against “bureaucratic interference” from festival directors while on tour in the UK.
Headlining the Leeds and Reading festivals in the UK last week, Rose’s trouble started during the band’s performance on Friday, August 27. Taking to the stage an hour late, Rose was warned by festival director Melvin Benn that, due to noise restrictions, the group would be unable to play beyond 12 midnight.
At 11:58pm, during an encore of “Paradise City” power to the stage was indeed cut, forcing the band to continue to acoustically for around five minutes before the show broke up in a shambles.
Taking to Twitter to voice his outrage, Rose labeled demanded an apology from promoters “responsible for the nonsense”.
He added: “We’d also like to thank the fans for being so great, singing along n’ not tearing the place apart!!”
Meanwhile, Guns N’ Roses band members, Richard Fortus and DJ Ashba have spoken out in support of the singer.
“I don’t think there is another band out right now that has the balls to do what we did last night,” Fortus tweeted. “Axl insists on doing things his way and not playing by the fucking rules. You can love him or hate him for it, but the fact of the matter is…. he’s the real fucking deal. skin, blood and soul. Deal with it or not, but it won’t ever change.”
Weeeell, we all know it was exactly this sort of behaviour that broke up the REAL Guns N Roses (coming on an hour late, keeping fans waiting), so keep right on going Axl – maybe you’ll break up this ‘fake band’, see the light and get Slash, Steven Adler, Duff McKagan and Izzy Stadlin back for a proper Gunnners show!
Festival promoters can’t be expected to ignore their noise restriction times, because if they did, there would be no Reading or Leeds festival the next year would there Axl? Huh?
How much are the security guards shitting themselves in this video…
