The music industry is nursing their annual hangover today, after its night of nights was held last night; the 2011 ARIA Awards. And, much like we predicted last week, Boy & Bear ruled the night, taking home five trophies including the night’s top award, the ALBUM OF THE YEAR.

The Sydney five released their debut album ‘Moonfire’ this year, and (along with the above), it earned them BEST ADULT ALTERNATIVE ALBUM, BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST – SINGLE, BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST – ALBUM, and BEST GROUP, like we said they would.

The other favourite, Gotye, capped off a pretty epic year, taking out the SINGLE OF THE YEAR, BEST POP RELEASE and BEST MALE ARTIST (just like we predicted) adding to the three Awards (PRODUCER OF THE YEAR, BEST VIDEO and ENGINEER OF THE YEAR) he’d already bagged during the ARIA Awards Nominations Event back in October. And yes, you can pretty much attribute it all to that single, ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ (feat. Kimbra).

Speaking of, the New Zealand native also took out her first solo ARIA as BEST FEMALE ARTIST for her debut album, ‘Cameo Lover.’ Again, we picked it!

Sydney experimental three-piece, Art Vs Science also had their ARIA cherry popped, winning in the category of BEST INDEPENDENT RELEASE for their debut album, ‘The Experiment’.

West Australian MC, DRAPHT, whose album ‘The Life of Riley’ debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA Album Chart, took home his first ARIA AWARD for BEST URBAN ALBUM.

Hamish & Andy won their second BEST COMEDY RELEASE ARIA Award, this time for their ‘Celebrating 50 Glorious Years Album,’ and The Cutters took out their first official ARIA for BEST DANCE RELEASE for their sophomore effort, ‘Zonoscope.’

Other memorable moments included ARIA HALL OF FAME recipients, Kylie Minogue and The Wiggles, both of whom were indicted by our Prime Minister, J-Gill, and Molly Meldrum.

The biggest surprise of the night was the HIGHEST SELLING ALBUM Award of 2011 recipient; former X Factor winner Altiyan Childs for his self titled debut album.

Despite Guy Sebastian winning the Highest Selling Single Award, and P!nk taking home BEST INTERNATIONAL ARTIST, the 2011 ARIAs was undoubtedly the night of the indie artist, with the majority of winners stemming from the Triple J pool rather than that of our national commercial radio stations, like previous years.

See the full list of winners below, and stay tuned for our full photo gallery of the ARIAs, coming shortly!
