Amy Kaehne is a brand you will be seeing a lot more of in the very near future. It is beautifully crafted and easy to wear, whilst always looking effortlessly stylish. What more could you want from your clothes? We chatted to Amy to hear all about her label.

How did you begin?

By deciding that I was sick of making other peoples dreams come true… Having my own business was something I wanted for such a long time so I launched into it after design assisting for a couple of years.

Do you have a fashion design background?

I come from a fashion/media design background, which I studied in New Zealand.

What is your design aesthetic?

Intricately structured detailed, relaxed & wearable clothing that will last in your wardrobe for seasons to come.

What is your design process?

My design process always starts with a theme. From there it opens a new chapter for the season and creates a loose guide to colour, texture and embodies a story. This creates the overall feel for the collection. Fabric also plays a big part in my design process. From there I plan out the aesthetic for the collection, then start on sketches, patterns, sampling and final product.

How do you like to experiment with fabrications?

I like to use natural fibers every season, I just love the texture and feel of them. So my main experimentation would be with textures. I have never been a print person… I tend to have one signature print each season that reflects my aesthetic overall rather than tran-seasonal trends or ‘looks’.
