I was with a friend at Splendour in the Grass recently and while we were mid-gumboot deep in mud waiting to see Azealia Banks, I was trying to explain who Ms. Banks is to my uninitiated pal as the crowd heaved around us in anticipation.
Then, the long legged, long haired black bombshell came on stage. “Oh my god, she’s so cute and fierce!” my friend enthused. That’s pretty much it – and despite the incredibly short SITG set (she was only onstage for 25 mins or so), Azealia Banks confirmed that she’s the dirty mouthed rapper, with a girly flirty side, she appears to be.
“Hey, I’m Azealia Banks, and this is the song you probably know me by”, she cooed before ripping into ‘212’. There’s something refreshing about the combination between her streetwise attitude and her girly naiveté. The world is absolutely smitten with this unique and talented ingénue.
Today, we’ve got two new morsels of Azealia Banks awesomeness. There’s her recent cover shot for SPIN magazine, a sign that’s she’s truly a mainstream mainstay. Pretty remarkable considering she hasn’t even delivered her debut album yet. Check it out:
And there’s also her brand new ‘Van Vogue’ film clip. The dark clip shows off the singer’s fashion fetish and water fascination. It’s a far cry from the pigtails and mickey mous jumper of ‘212’, but it’s still got that mouthy, fierce and fun vibe running through it. And it’s sexy as hell. Lap it up folks.
