Alexander Wang isn’t the most colourful of fashion personalities. Having forged his name with the kind of darkly Downtown New York grit that’s made for girls with dirty hair and rake-thin figures, it’s no surprise that his AW2012 campaign video is an exercise in muted tones, brooding and a fiercely urban soundtrack.
Shot by David Sims and starring Kati Nescher, the direction for 2012’s reigning campaign queen probably involved being told to stand around looking miserable. We’re not sure this would be a particularly easy task when clad in new season Wang— a mature step forward for the designer, the monochrome offerings are a texture-rich, sculptural success that are a world away from his earlier, grunge heavy work. We’re smiling, even if Nescher’s not.
