Whether it’s shotgun weddings or dramatic coifs, Brit It-model of the mid-noughties Agyness Deyn approaches everything with bravado. It is with this in mind that we’re pretty excited to have a peek at Deyn’s latest collaborative project with iconic footwear label Dr. Martens. Having championed her own very British breed of grunge chic, Deyn is the perfect choice for the sixty-five year-old brand, which has managed to be the go-to-shoe for every subculture worth its salt.
In line with the collaboration’s August 15 release, a video has been released which captures the gritty yet colourful spirit of the new range. Hint: look away now if Gwen Stefani circa 1997 results in bile coursing up your throat. With hair the colour of distilled berocca and an electrically charged wardrobe that wouldn’t look out of place in an issue of The Face, this is nineties nostalgia to the nth degree. Throughout, Deyn spouts metaphors that have the literary snob in me wincing (“I’m very hard to pin down,” she says, “I’m not a bird that would adapt well to having their wings clipped.”). Dr. Martens: rebellion you can wear.
